Drawing Out the Stories of Lost Animals
Born from the dirt and raised in the woods, in her work of birds, beasts and bugs; Amy Dover depicts a melancholic, ephemeral glimpses into another world. Exploring our relationship with non-humans in our ever disappearing world, Dover evokes uneasy feelings and raises questions about our relationship with non-humans. Weaving strange tales and unusual encounters, Dover draws from animals she meets, from mountains to jungles; in all their meticulous detail. Every feather, hair, scale and whisker; breaking down barriers between the human and the natural world in the age of the Anthropocene. She invites the viewer to enter a world which challenges perceptions of non-human animals, and nature becomes the central focus. Amy Dover is an Illustrator, Artist and Researcher. She is Programme Director of MA Illustration at Edinburgh College of Art and an AHRC funded practice based PhD Candidate at Newcastle University.
